Best slide size for your pitch:16:9 or 4:3? How to resize it?

Why is the aspect ratio of your slides important?

What is the aspect ratio?

"Aspect ratio" of slides is a proportional relationship between the width and height of a rectangle (image, video, document, slide).

Basically, any presentation tools such as Microsoft Power Point and Google slide allow you to set any aspect ratio. But, in fact, there are two major aspect ratios which people use mostly nowadays - 16:9 and 4:3. What's the difference?

You can check the aspect ratio of your slides here

What’s The Difference Between a 4:3 and 16:9 Aspect Ratio?

During the pre-widescreen era of standard definition (SD) television, 4:3 was the standard aspect ratio. However, due to the late-2000s and 2010s high-definition revolution, 16:9 has now become the norm.

The computer display industry has moved away from the 4:3 format long ago in the early 2010s although you can still do 4:3 with an old laptop, projector, and screen. Regardless, as more and more laptops, particularly your MacBook Pros and whatnot, will instead have a widescreen display capable of playing modern widescreen videos and whatnot, so the 16:9 and 16:10 resolution will naturally require an HD projector with an HDMI hookup. Since 4:3 doesn't normally cover HD resolutions, it's rate to see a 4:3 projector with an HDMI link.

We highly recommend you to create your pitch deck with 16:9. Why?

  1. 16:9 aspect ratio is that it’s 78 percent wider than the 4:3 aspect ratio.
  2. The audience who watch your pitch doesn't sit in front of TV, but PC which mostly has 16:10 or 16:9 resolution.
  3. To convert 16:9 to 4:3 needs to cut out side pillars (or add spaces on top and bottom), but converting 4:3 to 16:9 requires to cut out spaces on top and bottom of the slide!
